Palouse from above.
Palouse from above.
Here are more images from this shoot.

Oscar Ruiz, a helicopter pilot based in the Mexico City metropolitan area has some incredible photos showing the urban sprawl of Mexico City. Oscar, and another aerial photographer, Alex MacClean, have an eye for patterns in the urban environment and the nature environment. Alex has photographed all over the US and has shot my home turf, the Palouse. Yann Arthus-Bertrand is perhaps the most famous contemporary aerial photographer. He has available free over 1000 images with captions that can be downloaded as wallpaper. He has been all over the world and has also been to the Palouse. Yann is the brains behind the professional stock photo agency “Altitude” representing 70 aerial photographers.

Jakub 'jimmac' Steiner as some kickass MPEG4 videos/screencasts showing GIMP 2.0 fuctionality and tutorials. These are silent but deadly - deadly coll that is!

The best way to keeping track of what is happening on this site is by plugging my RSS feed into your RSS newsreader. RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication. This is a way of subscribing to my site and being notified when ever an update has occured. You don’t have to keep checking back to see if I’ve add a new post. Instead, your RSS newsreader will show the new post as soon as I’ve added one. I have to warn you that using a RSS newsreader will change the way you use the web because it enhances the experience so much. I currently follow 95 RSS feeds and can quickly and easily keep track of them because I only see the updates in my RSS newsreader.

To make use of this site’s RSS feed, you must first subscribe to it using an RSS reader, or any software that can interpret RSS. A list of RSS readers for Linux is here. Here is a list of RSS readers that are browser based (these are the easiest to use). A list of RSS readers for Windows is here. If you’re on the Mac and your operating system is OS X 10.4 or later, the Safari web browser doubles as an RSS reader. A list of RSS readers for Mac, in addition to Safari, is here.

To subscribe to this site’s RSS feed, add a new subscription to your RSS reader and then paste in this URL:

If you already know what to do and just want the XML (RSS Feed) button– here it is.

I’ve added a short list of Palouse Photographers to my link bar on this page. I’ll add more as I become aware of them. So far I’ve included here photographers that either live on the Palouse or shoot the Palouse as one of their primary subject. If you know of others, please let me know.

Today the fire has doubled in size. It is now 32,000 acres and is the largest fire in the Lower 48. The smoke collunm rises up into the jetstream and is currently being carried over our house. The smoke is so high that we can not smell it but it is really coloring our sky. The light even in mid-day has a cool quality to it.

There is a fire in the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness which is in the extreme SE corner of Washington State. Mary and I have hike this area quite a bit and really love it. It looks like thinks there will be changing. I haven’t gotten too close to the fire but from our house which is about 100 miles NE of the fire the sunset was awesome. The Northwest Interagency Coordination Center’s report on the fire shows that it exploded to an estimated 15,000 acres and the cause is under investigation.

The above photo has nothing to do with this post. I just think this blog needed a image on it rather than just text.

Recently I’ve come across a couple of unique sites displaying fine art figure photography. Shooting nudes is something I’ve always wanted to do but had the opportunity. Now it seems cliche that a middle-aged middle-class white guy would dream of being a fine art figure photographer. There are quite a few guys shooting nudes and a couple are actually original.

Leonard Nimoy of “Star Trek” fame has a series of photos called the“Full Body Project”. Leonard has quite a number of photo series and is quite accomplished. I’m sure being Leonard Nimoy helps.

Chan Chao, who first became know for his series Burma: Something Went Wrong, more recently finished a series of nudes, actually portraits of naked women. There is something quite beautiful about these portraits. The subjects are posed in such a way as to elevate the ordinary to the dignified.

Do you have some favorite fine art figure photographers? Let me know.
